Originally proposed as early as August 1940, the Gloster Meteor was the first jet aircraft flown by the Allies during the Second World War and equipped the world's first operational jet squadron. The first video ever to be made about this important and fascinating jet fighter, 'Meteor: The Ultimate Profile' follows its development from the drawing board through its service with the RAF to ejection-testing work with Martin-Baker today. During the making of this ground-breaking video, extensive colour footage was uncovered of jet pioneer Sir Frank Whittle and the earliest days of the aircraft and its presented here - exclusively - for the very first time. The video includes amazing colour footage of the E28/39 'Pioneer' prototype and the very first Meteor flight in March 1943, along with colour wartime film of 616 Squadron Meteors, test and production line footage, early endurance and mid-air refuelling exercises and much more. There is also fascinating coverage of the world air speed record attempts at Herne Bay and Worthing, and never before seen film of Meteors 'attacking' USAF B-29's simulating a Soviet nuclear strike against Britain. Many marks and variants are featured, including the T-7 Trainer, ground attack 'Reaper' version and the NF11 nightfighter. Surviving members of 616 Squadron, including Dennis Barry and Derek 'Dixie' Dean, vividly describe what the earliest Meteors were like to fly, and recall taking them into combat against Germany V-1 Flying Bombs. Other interviewees include Hal Taylor, Chairman of Meteor Flight, Commander Eric 'Winkle' Rowan and Martin-Baker's chief test pilot Bob Thompson, and there's an opportunity to watch the world's rarest flying Meteor in action with Martin-Baker, captured by ground and aerial cameras and with in-cockpit minicams.
