Way back in the 1960s, when steam was on the way out, a group of kids decided they simply weren't prepared to let the Merchant Navy class die - so they bought one straight out of BR ownership! The Bulleid Merchant Navy Pacific 35028 "Clan Line" wasn't their first choice, but has since proved a brilliant flagship of the surviving Southerns. With the support of the Merchant Navy locomotive Preservation Society, we see the engine being prepared at Stewarts Lane for a day out in the Garden of England, wearing the Golden Arrow headboard. What makes this film distinctive is that the engine is festooned with numerous cameras, including footplate coverage and footage from the air, with driver Colin KerswiU providing expert guidance of the engine at work. This DVD is the most vivid and detailed account of Clan Line ever made with highlights including a rare double-header, two identity changes and a long 1 -in-64.
