Synopsis:
The cocaine trade of the ‘70s and ‘80s had an indelible impact on contemporary Miami. Smugglers and distributors forever changed a once sleepy retirement community into one of the world’s most glamorous hot spots, the epicenter of a $20 billion annual business fed by Colombia’s Medellin cartel. By the early 80s, Miami’s tripled homicide rate had made it the murder capital of the country, for which a Time cover story dubbed the city "Paradise Lost."

Many murders in Miami - Cocaine Cowboys review by Bert

Spoiler Alert
07/11/2018

An interesting look at the drugs trade in Miami, Florida from the early 70's through to the 90's.

Focussing on accounts from a smuggler, a dealer and a hitman, this film gives an insiders view of the workings of the cocaine blizzard that enveloped South Florida.

The colossal amounts of money that were made and the skyrocketing murder rate that came with it.

The chilling thing is how matter of a fact the taking of a life had become.

Rather than spread the narrative out to the suppliers in Colombia, this tale keeps its story tied to the Florida playground of Miami, which keeps it rolling along nicely.

You hear from the good guys (Police, FBI, DEA) and the bad guys (smugglers, dealers, hit men) in equal measure. How the drug traders would try to outwit the law and how the law would try to put a stop to their business.

In the end you can't help but be astonished by the money that was made and lost.
