In this day and age when Russia is one of the biggest capitalist marketplaces in the world, it’s hard to imagine a time when the Soviet Union and the communist menace were considered the biggest threats to the American way of life in history. That’s why it’s a good idea sometimes to go back in time and look at films like the ones. What you get is a full collection of films made by the US Government at the height of the McCarthy era for the purpose of making people scared of communism. Of course, another subtext of all the films was to encourage people to embrace capitalism and start spending money so that our economy would continue to run like a roaring steam engine. History shows us that capitalism was always destined to win - but at this time (even after Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged was published) government leaders were terrified that American workers would unite and start a communist revolution at home. These are all scare tactics of course, but taken as a whole this is an invaluable historical document.
