Soon after Wendy Sinclair (Sheryl Lee) establishes Comfort House, a safe haven for battered women, in a small rural hunting town, the husbands of the women who are staying there are found dead. When it is revealed that Wendy killed her sister's husband, who had violently beaten her sister, Wendy becomes the number one suspect. The local sheriff, seeing his hunting buddies killed, struggles with objectivity, while his deputy, who is falling in love with Wendy, can't believe she's capable of such a thing. Set amid the conflicts of the local rural community owing to the influx of urban investment and encroachment, our mystery gives way to a bigger story which brings to light the secret behind.
