I’m reliably informed that the book is better, but having seen most of the chic-flicks since the popularity of Sex In The City, Confessions Of A Shopoholic is enjoyable if light viewing. Isla Fisher is perfectly cast as a budding journalist with a passion for shopping and running up huge debts. She carries over her bright personality from Enchanted that was also set in New York, with a little more added intelligence, but only just. The supporting cast provides a sustainable foil with John Goodman playing the loving father, Lithgow as the magazine guru and Kristin Scott Thomas with her outrageous performance as the head of the chic fashion magazine. It is a shame Thomas doesn’t have many scenes but Confessions doesn’t push the running time to epic proportions. Instead it’s content to provide light, harmless entertainment with a typical Hollywood feel good outlook. It pretty much delivers exactly what you would expect and perhaps a little more.
