Directed by filmmakers Kip and Kern Konwiser, and Executive Produced by former NBA star Magic Johnson, Crossover: A Worldwide Basketball Odyssey is a window into the world of basketball and its influence on culture. ^Over the past 50 years basketball has exploded across all seven continents and onto thousands of courts worldwide. The game has transcended borders and nationalities to become a reflection of how we live our lives; regardless of where we play the game or what language we speak. The film uses contemporary poetry in place of traditional narration, absorbing you in the story, which flows and dances - like the game itself. The complicated chore of interlocking verse with meaning and rhyme was achieved by some of the greatest young spoken word poets in America, who contributed to the script and whose words are powerfully delivered by one of hip-hop's greatest pioneers, Chuck D of Public Enemy. Filming for Crossover expanded across the globe, from America to Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and Asia. It covers the World Basketball Championships, NBA All Star weekend, the NBA draft and the Euroleague Final Four in Barcelona as well as basketball camps in Italy, Africa and Taiwan, not to mention dozens of playgrounds and neighbourhood parks in every one of the countries visited. Featuring interviews with top international players, scouts, coaches, executives and basketball professionals, including NBA legends Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Isaiah Thomas, David Robinson, and Jerry West, this documentary provides a unique and unrivalled insight into the sport.
