"Cuban Story" released for the first time in the UK is a collage of shocking, but historically valuable footage. Silent images of slain "comrades" and the savage killing of young men in the streets as Batista police casually observe are unsettling. It gives us a fascinating glimpse of Cuba in 1959. Presented by Errol Flynn - cinema's biggest star from the mid '30s until the late 1940s, and produced by Victor Pahlen. Originally screened in Moscow, it disappeared for four decades until Pahlen's daughter discovered it in the early 2000's. The film begins with Flynn talking about the powerful freedom fighter Fidel Castro. Film clips show dictator Fulgencio Batista's Henchmen and Generals, Castro's failed coup attempt, and the 1953 attack on Mancasa Barracks. We also see revolutionary troops and the destruction wrought by Batista's army. Che Guevara is featured several times as is Fidel's final entry into Havana on New Year's Day. A rare study of the Cuban revolution and the rise to power of Fidel Castro. Cuban Story has unwittingly become one of the key accounts of Castro's revolution.
