Melly Still directs this live performance of Shakespeare's romance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. Gillian Bevan is Cymbeline, King of Britain. With his two sons stolen years ago, Cymbeline relies upon his remaining daughter Innogen (Bethan Cullinane) to produce an heir to the throne. When he discovers Innogen has secretly married a nobleman of the king's court, Cymbeline has him banished in anger. Distracted, Cymbeline fails to notice the schemes of his queen, who intends for Innogen to marry her son from a previous marriage, Cloten (Marcus Griffiths), so as to secure her own claim to the throne.
