Blunt talking, politically incorrect detective Andy Dalziel once again pairs up with his younger, fast tracked side kick, Inspector Peter Pascoe. Joining the team are one time tearaway, WPC Janet Jackson and a young Muslim, DC Parvez Lateef, as they investigate four more intriguing murder mysteries in the town of Wetherton and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside surrounding it.
1. Heads You Lose (Parts 1 and 2) As Pascoe lies in a coma after a car crash, a shaken Dalziel takes on a case involving body parts dumped in a nearby lake. While the investigation uncovers a web of intrigue within the hospital, a recovering Pascoe is busy losing his heart to one of his nurses.
2. Dead Meat (Parts 1 and 2) When the body of an animal rights activist is found in the tiger enclosure of a private zoo, Dalziel recalls an unsolved murder on the same estate in the 1970's. Could the link help reveal an appalling truth behind the facade of the zoo.
3. The Dig (Parts 1 and 2) An archaeological dig uncovers more than they bargain for at a by pass excavation site including a recently buried body, fierce animosity from the road builders and a fresh murder. Dalziel and Pascoe investigate, finding evidence that raises doubts over one of Andy's previous convictions.
4. Dust Thou Art (Parts 1 and 2) There must be a link between the kidnapping of the daughter of wealthy art dealers, the murder of the philandering deputy director of the local Arts Centre and a big money scam involving faked Old Masters. But can the detectives solve the case in time to save their colleague, PC Janet Jackson?
