Dead Snow takes the best elements of the Evil Dead, The Fog and Shaun of the Dead and delivers them in a refreshing format. Yes, we're introduced to young adults embarking on a trip to a secluded Arctic, oblivious to what awaits them. Even the deaths are totally over the top in a Braindead way. There are numerous nods to influences that sometimes get in the way events itself and the backstory to why the Nazi's are still around is brief. Very much a fanboy romp, Dead Snow is brisk and features surprisingly good production standards. Apart from zombie Nazi's (which has been done before) there's little originality here.
For the first 40 minutes or so this is a suspenseful (and funny) horror pic. Unfortunately, the quality then drops dramatically as the film makers appear to run out of ideas and go for all-out gory slapstick. It's all a bit ramshackle and silly although the effects are pretty good. The acting is uneven as well - a few of them appear to take it seriously whilst the others just 'play act' their way through the mayhem. This is definitely post-pub bloke fare!
this is a very good slasher/ horror with plenty of blood and gore, the story is easy to follow and it has good effects.
