Deadliest catch takes you deep into the world of the Bering Sea as we follow seven vessels and their crews through the two most brutal fishing seasons on the planet: the King Crab season and Opilio Crab season. Forty-foot waves, hurricane winds, sleep deprivation, and operating heavy machinery on a pitching deck, are just a few reasons the injury rate is one hundred percent. The rugged adventures who fish these waters have the mindset of pirates - high risk for high reward - and putting life and limb on the line is just part of the job. The crabbing season kicks off in October and Captain Sig Hansen of Northwest, a 30-year veteran and a third generation fisherman, will match his skills against his old rivals, Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie, Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand of the Time Bandit, and Captain Keith Colburn of the Wizard. The fleet will push hundreds of miles out to sea and fish 400 feet deep in search of the prized crustaceans. The captains will strategise, and the crews will be pushed to their limits of mental and physical endurance as they repeatedly drop and haul the 700-pound crab pots. Before the season is out, the men will face down huge storms, sever injury, a ticking clock - and each other - to bring in the highly lucrative crab harvest.
