Little to say, no endearing features - although some 12 year-olds may enjoy the few romantic moments. For those who know the genre, they have seen these 'cheap' themed remakes a hundred times, and most produced, acted and executed much better than this one. For those expecting a decent, enjoyable captivating film - DO NOT rent this - it is boring and pointless - spend the time doing something less mind-numbing.
Bad acting, cheesy script & predictable screenplay, I cringed throughout the whole thing. My girlfriend usually laps these movies up, she was disappointed too. The ending left us both with a "what, that's it?!" feeling.
She was especially disappointed as The Notebook (also based on a book by Nicholas Sparks) was a great movie.
Don't bother, there are plenty of other great Romance Drama's out there.
Trying ridiculously hard to resemble The Notebook as one of the best tear-jerking films of all time, and failing miserably, Dear John lacks the meaningful moments and a plotline that is understandable, yet leaves you with food for thought. There are ocasionally some moments with the potential to be epic, yet they pass too fast and the boring ones lag on. Otherwise, what it lacks in its cheesey script, it certainly makes up for in its breath-taking scenery and brilliant acting.
