Documentary about the journey two explorers made in search of the source of the Nile, presented by Michael Asher. In 1956 scholar Richard Francis Burton and Army officer John Hanning Speke headed to Africa to explore the White Nile - one of the tributaries of the river Nile. Afterwards, Speke claimed that he alone made the discoveries about the river's source but before he was able to publicly announce these findings, he was mysteriously injured and killed. Meanwhile Burton became an outsider of society. In this programme, Asher, while following the same route Burton and Speke took, attempts to the discover the truth about the aftermath of the expedition.
