There are similarities between Death in Paradise and ITV's Doc Martin that can't be denied: the stiff Englishman dispatched to a location that's unfamiliar, always dressed in a suit, speaks to people abruptly, verbal jousting with the main female character... In Doc Martin there was a dog that liked to hang around the central character, in Death in Paradise it's a lizard. Not criticisms as I really liked this programme.
The content and tone is fairly light and humorous - even though the stories are about murders. The location looks great and it's really encouraging to see a far more diverse cast than is normal (although the lead character is white). Ben Miller does a great job and he appears to only feature in the first two series so I don't think I'll be watching series 3. Good to see Red Dwarf's Danny John Jules (the Cat) in this as well!
If you want something fairly light and a bit funny, with lots of sunshine and some nice music, I highly recommend it.
