May 1, 1959. in the waiting room of the station in Rome, a man with a distinct but unkempt air is stopped by a police station. It is the Neapolitan mathematician Renato Caccioppoli (Carlo Cecchi), a brilliant and eccentric man, well known throughout Naples. The next morning a police commissioner contacts his brother Luigi (Renato Carpentieri), who welcomes him to his house and his wife. But the Renato does not want near anyone; the only one who endures is peter, a young university student.
