Its the flame of love which bums so brightly deep in the hearts of those who love, which gives them the undying Powder of Love. Undaunted, the lovers are not only willing to brave any danger but challenge Destiny itself. "Deewana" is a portrayal of this love in all its glory. Fresh, full of romance passion and eternal love. Ravi (Rishi Kapoor) is a renowned singer besides being the only successor of a rich family being preoccupied with singing, he tends to ignore his estate and property. Unheeded Dhirendra Pratap (Amrish Puri) who is Ravi's step uncle along with his son Narendra (Mohnish Behl), aspires to be the sole proprietor. Laxml Devi (Sushma Seth) wants her son Ravi to get married and settle down, but he has no such inclination till...He meets Kajal (Divya Bharati) and falls in love with this innocent, nubile beauty. Unable to live apart, the lovers decide to get married and Ravi brings the bride home. Horrified, Dhirendra Pratap and his son work out a devious plan. Narendra attacks Ravi with the intention of killing him and in the ensuing fight loses his life too. Enraged. Dhirendra decides to get even by wiping out the entire family. Thus the young widow and the mother are held prisoners. However. Munshi succeeds in fouling his peons and the three escape to Bombay. The inconsolable widow no longer loves life. Barely existing, haunted by the memories of her departed husband. And then...Raja (Shahrukh Khan) crosses her path. For him its love at first sight. Being the spoil brat of a millionaire father, he revolts against him and cajoles Ravi's mother into convincing his beloved Kajal to marry him. As per mother-in-laws wishes Kajal reluctantly agrees. Now Raja's only aim in life is to win Kajal's broken heart at any cost. Crazy about her, he showers her with love and care. Fulfilling her every whim and desire. Gradually Kajal is drawn towards him inspite of her wanting to hold on to the memories of her first husband. She succumbs and accepts him. But as fate would have it, Ravi, after a miraculous escape, comes back into her life...Torn between the two, what decision will Kajal take? Will she go back to Ravi, the man she loved to distraction? Or will she accept fate and stay with Raja, who is crazily in love with her? Will Ravi walk right out of her life again? Or will Raja play the maryter and bring the ill fated lovers back together?
