The story of Derby's war has never been told in this way before. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of VE Day, we have unearthed previously unseen film and photographs of the town as it stood firm under the onslaught of German attack. We have even spoken to some of the people who appeared in those pictures - as well as to some of the Derby folk who went off to fight and others who stayed behind to keep the war effort alive. The stories and pictures give a fascinating insight into life in wartime Derby - from the preparations for war, to the air raid attacks on the town and some of the action that Derbyshire soldiers saw. It is an extraordinary story of how our "ordinary" lives were changed for ever.
