Synopsis:
Poulenc's 'Dialogues des Carmelites' is an opera of remarkable originality, which has enjoyed a string of successful productions since its premiers in 1957. This 1999 production hails from Opera de Rhin in Strasbourg and was commissioned as part of Poulenc's 100th birthday celebrations. It was lauded by the press for its truth to the composer's intentions and for its success in expressing the spiritual message in the score. Jan Latham-Koenig conducts an excellent cast, including a marvellous Anne-Sophie Schmidt in the role of Blanche.
