Five-part British television miniseries, starring Richard O'Sullivan as the notorious highwayman. With his trusty companion Swiftnick (Michael Deeks), Turpin meets the aristocratic Jane Harding (Mary Crosby), and finds himself caught up in the American woman's scheme to depose the corrupt governor of her home state of Maryland. Episode One Jane Harding is sent to England from Maryland by her wounded father with papers that could discredit and topple the tyrannical Governor Appleyard.
Episode Two Jane must get to Bristol to present the papers to the Attorney General, but the fastest way for her to get there is to steal Turpin's horse Black Bess.
Episode Three A choice remark from Turpin leads to a duel with the hothead Noll Bridger. As it plays out, Fytton catches up with them and swiftly imprisons both Turpin and Swiftnick.
Episode Four Turpin and Swiftnick break out of prison only to be captured by Ignatius Slake, a religious maniac, and his followers. He decrees that Turpin should be burned to death on a flaming cartwheel.
Episode Five Rescued by Jane Harding, Turpin determines to help her in her mission to have the corrupt governor arrested.
