Die Gespenstersonate: Deutsche Oper Berlin (Friedemann Layer) (1984)

Staged by the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the world premier of Aribert Reimann's opera, recorded live at the Hebbel Theatre, Berlin in 1984. Based on the drama by the Swedish writer August Strindberg, the opera follows the story of a student intrigued by the occupants of a grand house. Once drawn into the seemingly haunted house by the 'Old Man', he finds himself caught up in the prevailing atmosphere of trickery, depression and murder.
