- The practice of abduction into marriage is one of Ethiopia's oldest traditions. Hirut, a bright 14-year-old girl is on her way home from school when she is kidnapped. She tries to escape but, in an attempt to protect herself, mortally wounds her would-be husband. "Difret" tells the inspirational true story of Hirut and Meaza, the female lawyer who fought her case.

Straightforward storytelling of the best kind - Difret review by IM
This film is often criticised as being "flat" ie devoid of Hollywood artifice. It doesn't need it. A strong, true story, believably acted, with a rare insight into rural Ethiopian life.
