Hazari Prasad was a miser. Such a miser, that if a fly were to drop into his cup of tea, he would squeeze out of the last drop of tea from the fly before drinking the tea from the cup. Raaja was Hazari Prasad's only son. And the exact opposite of his father. For while Hazari Prasad hoarded "Laxmi" (Wealth) in his safe, Raaja squandered it away. He was the extravagant son of a miserly father. Mr. Mehra, a millionaire with just one daughter, Madhu Mehra was just the man Hazari Prasad was looking for. He immediately got down to making friends with him. And sure enough, he succeeded in creating a good impression on Mehra. Little did they realize that their children, Madhu and Raaja, hated each other. Raaja and Madhu's practical pranks oh each other in college, took a serious turn. Raaja tried teaching Madhu a lesson and in the bargain got her to see his honesty and simplicity. Hate changed to love and their fathers who were waiting for this change were extremely excited and happy. They wasted no time in fixing up a date for their engagements. On the eve of the engagement, Hazari Prasad's hatband was broken. Mr. Mehra got to know the truth about Hazari Prasad being a mere-scrap merchant who was pretending to be a millionaire to trap him and his daughter. He immediately broke off the engagement. Love, as you know, listens to no one and nothing. Love only listens to the Heart – The DIL. So irrespective of whether their fathers approved it or not, Madhu and Raaja kept on meeting and seeing each other.
