A slice-of-life comedy about shifting relationships and the conflict between traditional and contemporary values, Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart is director Wayne Wang's charming follow-up to the ultra low-budget Chan is Missing. Set amidst San Francisco's Chinatown community, the film focuses on the relationship between Mrs Tarn (Kim Chew), traditional Chinese woman in her 60s and the thirty-something daughter (Lauren Chew) she wishes to marry off. A beautiful yet understated portrait of ordinary people living surprisingly complex lives; Wang's sense of character and place is exceptional. Affectionate and poignant, this is a genuine gem.
