New York playwright, Sidda Walker (Sandra Bullock) is high on life with her new play opening on Broadway and her pending wedding to the gorgeous Connor. But following an unguarded magazine interview, Sidda unintentionally reveals more than she planned about her childhood and fragile relationship with her eccentric mother, Vivi (Ellen Burstyn). After reading the article, the outraged Vivi disowns Sidda, takes down her pictures and refuses to attend her wedding! Like mother, like daughter: neither is likely to take the steps to bridge the chasm between them. No, this is a job for the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, sworn lifelong friends of Vivi, who are eager to restore peace between mother and daughter - what ever it takes!
