When Ryan and Wade manage to incur the wrath of a psychotic bully on their very first day of high school, they pool their money together and place an ad on the internet to hire a bodyguard to protect them. After interviewing several candidates they settle for Drillbit Taylor, who claims to be a master of martial arts, an ex-mercenary and cheap. The trouble is Drillbit is really a homeless beggar intent on scamming them out of their money and possessions in order to raise enough money to move to Canada. This is predictable run of the mill fodder where you know after letting the boys down Drillbit is going to redeem himself and come good by the end of the film and even for this type of film it is well below average. Its biggest problem is that in parts it’s a bit too risqué to be a kids film and far too juvenile to hold the attention of most adults and pretty much humourless throughout. Add to that an unoriginal and unbelievable plotline and an idiotic ending which seems to advocate that using violence to solve violence is the best option and a lesson which I’m guessing most parents wouldn’t want their kids to be taught. If you're looking for something that’s a bit different to watch with the kids I would opt for Disney’s "Holes" or "Problem Child", and if you’re looking for something a bit more mature then check out "Blades Of Glory", "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the superb "Step Brothers", but avoid this turkey.
