Duke Ellington (Edward Kennedy Ellington) born April 29th 1899, was considered as one of the world's greatest musicians and composers. Duke and his orchestra toured the world, notching up thousands of performances in his 50-year career. He performed to everyone, from Queen Elizabeth II and President Nixon, to the common person, and was awarded by the United States government, the highest civil honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
