Shortly after the fall of Saïgon, internal disruption further destroys North and South Vietnam. Northern Soldiers are convinced the Southern population has become corrupted by imperialistic ideas. Determined to change the Southern population, North Vietnamese Soldiers roam the streets picking up orphaned boys for transport to rehabilitation camps. Living conditions at these camps are deplorable, especially for Bob (Gilles Chitlaphone), Son (Daniel Guyant) and Shrimp (Leon Outtrabady) who are struggling to survive at the Phu Van camp near the Cambodian border. They discover a hidden bamboo grove near the river and attempt to escape by building a raft and riding the rapids to freedom.
