Egypt the land of the pharaohs. The Egyptian high culture under the rule of the pharaohs was one of the most important civilizations in ancient times, and with a duration of over three thousand years surely the most persistent one. Probably everyone instantly bears in mind the impressing images of the pyramids, the great Sphinx in Giza, the giant temples and legendary treasures that survived in the dry sands of the desert.
