It's spring 1972. A new start for Endeavour (Shaun Evans) coincides with a gruesome discovery in a college garden, and the investigation leads him and Thursday (Roger Allam) to uncover the secret history of a celebrated Oxford orchestra. When an illustrator is reported missing, Endeavour uncovers a link to a case that CID had hoped was long behind them, leading to jeopardy in the present involving the upper echelons of Oxford and beyond. Later, Eendeavour's investigation into a number of untimely death notices, each with a cryptic message, forces him to confront his own mortality. Back at the station, Strange (Sean Rigby) plans his wedding to Joan (Sara Vickers), and Bright (Anton Lesser) sets his sights on retirement. With the team going their separate ways, where will this leave Endeavour and Thursday?
