Enemy traces the story of two childhood friends, who turn foes due to one's ego and jealousy. Chozhan (Vishal) and Rajiv (Arya), in their early teens, are trained by Rajiv's father, an ex-CBI officer (Prakash Raj) to make them join the Police. Chozan's father is highly risk averse and dislikes his son mingling with Rajiv and his father. Both Chozan and Rajiv are equally trained by Rajiv's father. Chozan appears to be better out of the two causing hatred and jealousy among Rajiv. One day, both Chozan and Rajiv are playing chess in which Rajiv wins. As he starts to celebrate, he realises that someone had killed his father.
Both Chozan and Rajiv are then brought to the police station as they are the only eyewitnesses in the murder. Chozan assures that he can solve the case by the skills taught to him by Rajiv's Father. However, he is forced to retreat by his scared father who brings him away from the town, abondoning the orphaned Rajiv. Chozhan promises his father that he would never involve in any form of danger henceforth...
