- While on a college trip to a local mental hospital, young psychology student Abby has a chilling encounter with high risk patient Harmon Jaxon (Dominic Purcell). Returning home, Abby settles down for an evening of study with her roommates unaware that her earlier visit has awakened a violent obsession in Harmon. Later that evening Harmon escapes and, leaving a trail of death in his wake, he makes his way to his goal - Abby. Oblivious to the danger she's in Abby finishes her studies and goes to bed. As a violent storm breaks and plunges the neighbourhood into darkness, Harmon closes in on her...

Escapee (aka Asylum Escape) review by Alyse Garner - Cinema Paradiso
Supposedly based on events that took place in the small home town of one of the movie’s producers Escapee is the story of a young medical psychotherapy student who, whilst on a visit to the local mental institution, has a disturbing encounter with one of the most vulnerable inmates. This encounter leads to the sudden development of an obsession by the inmate Harmon (Dominic Purcell) who escapes during a rabid storm later that evening and begins tracking down the girl who awakened his blood lust.
A completely and undeniably predictable horror/thriller hybrid Escapee is essentially little more than a combination of the Halloween and Scream movies; yet without either of their originality and creativity.
Where Scream and Halloween pushed boundaries upon their initial release and both have stood the test of time, becoming some of the most popular horror movies of the last three decades I think it would be best if Escapee was forgotten before it was even released.
There is absolutely nothing original about this movie, the plot and characterization is so one dimensional that at times I was honestly beginning to believe I was watching a high quality porno. Nothing about this movie surprised me, even the sudden shock moments could be seen a mile off and you simply found yourself jumping at a sudden cut then being irritated by how obvious the choice of shot actually was.
I honestly couldn’t recommend this film less; there is nothing to credit it in any way, if you are going to watch a horror movie go for one with genuine tension and darkness, rather than this absolute waste of film.
