From the eastern coast in the capital city of Vienna to the western border of Lake Constance, this train excursion captures the heartbeat of a nation. Whether it is a leisurely break in the day to drink the Danube basin or to marvel over the peaks of the Carnic Alps, each whistle stop is poetic and informative for the true adventurer. Spectacular sections of the route in the Voralberg and Tyrol areas to the west are contrasted with Upper and Lower Austria, where you find a less familiar but equally charming landscape of old farms, quiet villages, vineyards, churches and monasteries. Other points of interests include visits to the cities of Linz, Salzburg, and the winter Olympic City of Innsbruck. The trip concludes with a rail journey to Feldkirch and Bregenz - home to the famed summer festival.
