2008/09 was another season to remember for Everton. It didn't begin too well for The Toffees but once the players found their rhythm, there was no holding them back. The run through to Wembley and the FA Cup final was littered with challenges but Everton responded to every single one of them and were unfortunate not to bring the famous trophy back to Goodison Park. In the Premier League, a second consecutive 5th place finish was secured and with it another European qualification. And all the drama was played out against a backdrop of cruel injury blows. Yakubu, Mikel Arteta, Victor Anichebe and Phil Jagielka all had their seasons prematurely ended and so the feat of reaching the cup final and finishing just outside the top four was all the more remarkable. In the Premier League we had Mikel Arteta's brilliant free-kicks against Blackburn, Sunderland and Hull City, the last-gasp wins at Bolton and Manchester City, a two-goal debut for Jo, the 4-0 demolition of Wigan Athletic, nine away wins in total and some telling contributions from Marouane Fellaini, Steven Pienaar, Leon Osman and many more besides.
