Hira Pandit (Mahima Chaudhry) is a Bollywood heroine who has slipped from the peak of her stardom. Desperate to resurrect her career, she takes the advice of an old friend - a brilliant but badly behaved and therefore out-of-work actor named Digs - to find an unconventional story, something from real life for her next project. This turns out to be mysterious, terrifying story of a woman who is in jail for murdering her own husband, a husband who was the son of the head of a fundamentalist, non - political group called Hindu Pariksha, a husband no wife would wish for, a husband who represented great cultural values in front of the world but abused and battered his wife at home. The film is a success but more importantly, it touches Hira personally and she decides to do all she can to help the woman - to make a difference in 'real' life rather then 'reel' life. "Film Star" is a story of an actress who realizes that a person is responsible for much more then just his or her own life.
