"First Love" is about two young lovers in czarist Russia. One is a 21-year-old woman (Dominique Sanda), the other a young man of sixteen, (John Moulder Brown). Things though take a tragic turn when the young boys father (actor/director Maximilian Schell), becomes involved. As captivating and moving today as it was when it was made nearly 40 years ago, this is a real lost gem of a film and richly deserved it's nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 1970's Academy Awards. Amongst the co-stars look for Alf Garnett's missus, Dandy Nichols and famed 'Look Back in Anger' playwright/actor John Osborne.
