Only the "lucky" few are taken on; Fewer still earn the right to wear the Kepi Blanc, the famous cap. At least once in his life, it is every man's dream: to forget the past and to be born again in the anonymity of the French Foreign Legion. Each year a surprising number of British men take the first step. But what happens next? The Foreign Legion is the best known and certainly the most romanticised army in the world. In reality it is also one of the most secretive and most feared - a ruthless military machine which never surrenders no matter what the odds. With unparalleled access to life within the Foreign Legion, this film follows one young recruit from Kircaldy in Fife, 22 year old former Royal Marine Dean Heggie as he arrives in Paris and tackles one of the toughest training programmes in the world. Endless drill at all hours of the day and night, gruelling physical training, hours devoted to learning the Legion's songs and even the correct swaggering walk. Encountering alligators, pythons, deadly spiders and wrestling an 18ft anaconda is all part of the jungle training. Deep into the Amazon the Legionnaires test their jungle warfare to the limits. Only one in ten will make it through to the end, but once a full Legionnaire, their lives will never be the same again.
