London Follow Hermione Cockburn as she embarks on a search for fossils in the most unexpected of places. A stroll along London's Old Bond Street produces evidence of fossils in the facades of some of the buildings and a visit to Kew Gardens to the aptly named Evolution House and a meeting with the botanist James Wong helps her understand the value of living fossils. She is then privileged to have a guided tour of Sir David Attenborough's private collection of fossils. He shows her some of the items he has collected over the years. These include an ancient fish from the Australian outback, a dinosaur backbone he picked up in the Sahara and a cast of a trilobite track.
South of England "Fossil Detectives: South of England" sees our host Hermione Cockburn dinosaur hunting in the south of England. Much of the search takes place on the Isle of Wight where more fossils have been found than anywhere else in Britain. She takes on the thrilling opportunity of abseiling down a cliff to excavate her first very own dinosaur bone from the cliff. Her travels also see her meet up with song-writer and activist Billy Bragg and his son Jack. They both have a passion for fossils and show Hermione their collection. Hermione also learns what geo-thrillogy is as she walks along the beach among boulder sized dinosaur footprints.
