At Disentis in the valley of the Vorder Rhein, the Rhätische Bahn makes an end on junction with the Furka-Oberalp railway where its locomotives take over such famous trains as the Glacier Express. Descending the fertile valley and cutting through a gorge with unusual geological formations, it comes to Reichenau, the junction for the line to St.Moritz, before speeding along the double track into Chur, the capital of Canton Graubünden. Here, it connects with the Federal Railways with which it runs almost parallel to Landquart where the Rhätische Bahn's most important workshops are situated. The line then swings up the valley of the Landquart river to the well known resort of Klosters before beginning a punishing climb towards Davos from where the line continues down the valley of the Landwasser, crossing an impressive viaduct on the way, to the junction with the St. Moritz line at Filisur.
