Advances in military aviation during World War Two paved the way for supersonic flight. The men who had developed jet technology in the 1930's and 40's could not know what impact their hard work would have on aviation during the latter half of the 20th Century. Concorde. The very word still evokes an image of a time when British aviation technology soared above all others. The elegant birds carried many thousands across the Atlantic in great comfort, and at great speed. Probably the most important contribution Concorde made, was to keep the British aircraft industry alive during planning for the aircraft in the late 1950's and construction of the two prototypes in 1965, but Concorde will forever hold a special place in the hearts of the British public.
