i watched this on a day off sick from work, feeling thoroughly rough i wanted an easy to watch film to pass the day. This was lovely, you knew the premise of the film but it was easy to watch and sweet. definately recommend as a chick flick
Based on the Jane Austen classic Sense and Sensibility From Prada to Nada is the story of two Latina sisters, who, upon the sudden death of their father, find themselves penniless and forced by a despicable sister-in-law to move in with their destitute aunt in to a significantly less wealthy community than they were previously used to.
With a large percentage of the speech in Spanish From Prada to Nada is very much a romantic comedy with a slight cultural twist from the traditional white middle-class American’s of it’s peers and predecessors. This is certainly a quality to be applauded; ethnic diversity is however the only thing that sets this movie apart from its Hollywood counterparts.
From Prada to Nada follows the exact narrative riches to rags romance plot that you would expect from Hollywood and is, to my complete disgust, full of just as many blatant stereotypes as it’s peers; anyone familiar with the American spoilt brat and the Mexican stereotype could almost predict the script before the actresses say it – it really is that formulaic and obvious.
Whilst we’re on the subject of ‘actresses’ I should add that I use the term fairly loosely, it doesn’t take a great deal of talent to totter around on stiletto heels, pout, bitch and the then kiss the handsome bloke at the end does it?
All in all this film couldn’t stand out less if it tried and will be perfectly acceptable to fans of the genre who may even like the rather cliché cultural twi
