Josh Futturman (Josh Hutcherson), a world-ranked gamer, still lives at home with his parents, Gabe (Ed Begley Jr), and Diane (Glenne Headly), and has a dead-end job as a janitor at the sexual disease research centre. His social ineptitude, low esteem and prominent inability to approach women can only be match by his unparalleled prowess at The Biotic Wars, a dystopian video game where his character, Future Man, has the top ranking in the world. When he becomes the first and only person to beat the elusive final level, he's visited by the game's "fictional" characters, Tiger (Eliza Coupe) and Wolf (Derek Wilson), who prove to be all-too-real warriors sent back in time from a desecrated future with the task of recruiting him to save humanity from a super-race invasion... - Actors:

Potential - Future Man: Series review by CP Customer
If you did a serious version of this it would really work. Especially the 2 main space travellers ,Rarely does a film capture the sensibilities of people who never get out of the arena. On perpetual high alert.
They would have fitted in on battlestar galactica.
The female lead eliza coupe is especially good even tho the stories are not really. Also they are too sweary and loud in a way that real warriors are not. But its one of those things where you see great potential in characterisation and in acting.
