When portrait painter Kingdom Swann (Billy Connolly) tries his hand at photography he finds great success with a series of pictures of naked women in exotic settings. However, when his photos turn up in the collection of a Soho photographer, he unwittingly becomes the focus of a blazing public row about the exploitation of women. And with his housekeeper Violet Askey (Sarah Lancashire) having recently joined the suffrage movement, his own home is just as much a battlefield as the world outside.
