An improviser with a flair for style and melodic elegance, many musicians have credited him with "opening up their ears to the beauties of tone". 'Lullaby of Birdland', written by Shearing in 1952 as the theme song for the famous night club, has become a standard of the jazz repertoire...his lasting legacy.
