Giora Feidman is one of the great Jewish musicians of our time, and is known internationally for his achievements in reviving the Jewish tradition of Klezmer music. Although born in Argentina in 1936, Feidman has always felt very close to Germany. In 1984 he became popular there for his performance in Peter Zadek's stage production of "Ghetto", and went on to win acclaim for his music written for the film "Schindler's List". The award-winning director Uwe Scheffler took up the challenge of visualizing the complex spirit of Klezmer music. With almost no spoken commentary, he followed the melodic strands from the Logensaal to the Jewish synagogue in Cracow, through the extermination camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau as well as to the Holocaust memorials in Israel. For the project Giora Feidman brought in an eclectic mix of musicians. The Jewish artist Dan Rubenstein created drawings to enrich the musical-visual reconstruction of the Jewish-German past.
