"Gods of the Plague" is an angst-drenched portrait of a newly released jailbird, Franz Walsch (Harry Baer), as he is drawn back into Munich's criminal underworld. While caught between the love of two women (Hanna Schygulla and Margarethe von Trotta), he finds he is implicated in the murder of his brother. After meeting with an old friend, Gunther (Gunther Kaufmann), the two plan a supermarket robbery, but the police have been tipped off. In 'Rio Das Mortes', Michel (Michael Konig) and Gunther (Gunther Kaufmann), two feckless young friends with few prospects, discover an old map of Peru they believe shows the location of a hidden treasure trove. Togetherthey embark on a hare-brained scheme to travel to the Rio das Mortes to look for it, against strong opposition from Michel's fiancee Hanna (Hanna Schygulla).
