Russian drama directed by Egor Baranov. Set in 1829, the film follows Nikolai Gogol (Alexander Petrov), a young clerk who suffers from terrible visions which stop him from completing his work. Things begin to change for Nikolai when investigator Yakov Guro (Oleg Menshikov) realises that the visions could provide clues to help him solve a number of crimes and the pair join forces. However, both men soon find themselves being pushed to the limit as they try to get to the bottom of one particularly strange case in the remote village of Dikanka, where the locals will seemingly do anything to keep their dark secrets hidden.
