Goya in Bordeaux (1999)

Helmed by the famed Carlos Saura, this lush biopic chronicles the life of one of Spain's most acclaimed artists, Francisco de Goya, who was the Spanish royal family's court painter before exiling himself to France because of political unrest at home. On his deathbed, the incomparable Saragossan artist - who lived from 1746 to 1828 - recalls haunting memories of the women and events that inspired his work.
