Designer and writer Kevin McCloud returns with a fifth series, following Britain's most ambitious and astonishing house-building or rebuilding projects. Amongst these spectacular self builds are an environmentally friendly log cabin and a Grade II listed 16th Century farmhouse. This series showcases a wide range of building methods and materials, such as centuries old craftsmanship building techniques, to houses constructed with materials as diverse as cement poured in to polystyrene, or the eco-friendly approach of lime and sheep's wool. From those who can't afford to buy a house, and decide to use both ingenuity and their bare hands to build their family home, to stunning waterfront houses with breathtaking scenery, 'Grand Designs' follows people as they pursue their architectural vision and dreams amidst ambitious deadlines, unforeseen obstacles and ever expanding budgets to build their dream home.
