Laughter's still the best medicine when Matthew Modine stars as Joe Slovak, a gifted first-year med student who shakes up the conservative academic establishment with a style all his own. Joe's freewheeling, nature and quick wit fill the classroom with laughter, but put him at odds with his fellow would-be doctors. They soon realise they've got to overcome their differences and work together if they're ever going to survive the long hours, all-night study sessions and grueling exams. Through it all, Joe learns as much about friendship, romance and good times as he does about medicine...and that it takes someone a cut above to make the grade both inside and outside the classroom.
